The United States and European Union have agreed to end their long-running dispute and create a truce that allows the two sides to turn their attention to the commercial aircraft industry in China.
While the C919 jet has been developed in China to rival the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320, China’s commercial jet sector faces multiple challenges.
One challenge has been maintenance and service, which make up most of the costs throughout the duration of a commercial airplane’s lifespan. “The hardest part isn’t making the physical aircraft,” said Kevin Michaels, managing director at the consultancy AeroDynamic Advisory. “These are productivity machines that must operate 365 days a year. That’s the hardest part.”
